You’re not a sales guy…

This is the second part of a five part series, diving deeper into individual points from the post : “5 reason’s your product is not at retail”  Now let’s discuss the second item:

2 – You’re not a ‘sales guy’ – and you think that matters

Some people think that you are either born a salesperson or you are not.  I don’t think that is true.  Anyone can be an effective sales person, if they choose to be.

Selling is Telling…

Effective selling is about passion – having it for the product or service you are selling.  You have passion for the product or service if you believe in it, if you know it will solve a problem or address a need.

You know this because you’ve done your research on your products target market, the retailer, their customers, and the competition.

Once you know all of this, you are confident, you are sharing with a friend, you are telling a story.  It doesn’t take anyone special to tell a story, does it?

If you are a product guy, an accounting guy, an engineer, whatever – it doesn’t matter.  You CAN be an effective salesperson if you have that passion.  Some of the best meetings I’ve been in have been with a passionate inventor/founder that I’ve gotten in front of the right person at a retailer.  They weren’t salespeople -never wanted to be, never would be.

But they had the passion, the conviction, and the confidence to tell a story…

Selling is Telling a Story with Passion…

Don’t let your mind convince you that you are not a salesperson – trust in your passion, your conviction, and your knowledge.  Then go tell a story.
